AIRPLANE CRASH

Thursday, June 16, 2011  Often a mention of the Monroeville Airport comes up in conversation and many are amazed that, yes, Monroeville has an airport. Well its no GPIA or County Airport but its a smaller "inactive" runway that some aircraft still use.

Today MECC alerted the MFD to an aircraft down and on fire. C-51 (A/C Hill) arrived to find a small 4 passenger Mooney M-20 had gone down during take off to the left of the runway and caught fire. Two passengers were in the aircraft and had already exited the vehicle prior to the fire incident. 1 was treated for a small head laceration but both refused transport.

Crews from Tanker 5 and Engine 62 extinguished the fire quickly with foam and the scene was turned over to the Monroeville Police and FAA for investigation.

WHO WE ARE

Wednesday, April 6, 2011  We post many pictures on our website of calls. And many of those pictures are of the group of guys that responded to those calls. These group pictures are a way of us showing our camaraderie and tightness as a company and the teamwork we hopefully show during that call.

Well, sometimes these photos ARE after a really bad call or horrible event and it appears our guys are....well....jovial or smiling or joking around. After a bad call or a bad fire, or even after a call that just hits home and bothers a member (it can be the simplest of things) we often have a laugh, tell a joke or josh around in order to decompress. It's an outlet we have to deal with this stress, and we try not to do it during the sensitive times of a call. It is in no way to mean disrespect or insensitivity.

These photos are usually taken well AFTER the call when everything is cleaned up, all tasks are done and when the guys are getting ready to head back to the station to catch up on the sleep they missed, the homework they didn't get done, or even the date or dinner plans they had that they missed. We take our tasks and our jobs VERY seriously at #5 and continue to strive to provide the best and top notch care we always have.
