RESIDENTIAL ELECTRICAL FIRE
Monday, June 28, 2010
-
At 0000 hrs, Companies 5,6,4,Cmnd 32 were alerted for a possible residential electrical fire in the 200 Blk of Center Road. C-50 arrived first and established command at a home that was well back off the roadway making access for arriving fire apparatus very difficult. E-51 arrived and hand-jacked a supply line down the neighboring driveway to Center Rd for next due company in. Truck 5 placed at Williamsburg Place across the street as did E-61. Crews went inside home where they found a significant amount of smoke inside. Reporting this to Command, a water supply was then established by E-61 crew due to the nearest hydrant being OOS. Crews found that a transformer had blown causing a back feed of power to the home causing the wiring in the basement to burn up and some of the wood joist it ran across as well. Dry chem extinguishers were used due to the electrical condition and crews awaited the power company to isolate power to the resid. Once this was accomplished, crews were able to extinguish remaining burnt out areas and vented the home with fans. Crews remained on scene for approx. 2-1/2 hours.

COMMAND: C-50 (Harvey)
UNITS RESPONDING: E-51, Truck 5, E-61, E-42, Rescue 4, Command 32
